DREAMS CAN COME TRUE AT ANY AGE
You are never too old to follow a dream… Two heart-warming stories in the news today express that sentiment. The BBC World Service followed the story of an illiterate Bangladeshi grandmother who never went to school as a child and has now enrolled in a school to learn to read and write. This is not the first time the BBC have reported on Bangladeshi senior women going to school, many of them were married as young as 7 years old and never had an education but are putting that right in their later years.
Another news article covers a couple in their 80’s who have married after a 63 year interval. Davey Moakes and Helen Andre fell in love and got engaged when he was 21 and she was 19. Her parents objected to their union and blocked their marriage, fearing that Mr Moakes, an artist, would not be a good provider. A lifetime later and after different marriages had ended, they got in touch through their children and reignited their relationship. They declared that they had always loved each other, the new Mrs Moakes, 82, saying “I couldn’t be happier – all my dreams have come true.” Mr and Mrs Moakes are currently on honeymoon in Cyprus.
Your unfilled dream may not be quite as dramatic as marrying your first love, but even a moderate ambition can bring immense satisfaction if successfully pursued. Go for it.
