FUTURELEARN.COM
There are so many resources on the internet that can help us to keep mentally active and stimulated at any time of life. One such is futurelearn.com which gives completely free access to university level courses. It’s easy to sign up for a course which typically lasts 2 to 6 weeks. The courses are in English and cover a wide subject range, delivered in an easily accessible style with video presentations and story-telling as well as academic reading material. And the good news is that you do not have to take any exams, though you can acquire a completion certificate if you wish. A variety of courses are on offer under main umbrellas which include Creative Arts & Media; History; Politics; Literature; Law; Business & Management; Nature & Environment; and Sport & Leisure.
You also have the choice of joining each course’s online community of fellow learners to discuss the topics. In this way your learning can also be a pleasant social connection, especially to combat isolation or if you feel lonely. From experience, the online community that I joined was positive, courteous and often wise.
Though I found it best to keep up with the weekly sessions and discussions, once you have downloaded your course you can actually complete it at your leisure. All in all a quite amazing resource.
