HOW NUTS ARE YOU?
A new study has found strong evidence that a handful of nuts 5 days a week has the beneficial health effects of lowering cholesterol, averting blocked arteries and preventing heart disease. The study suggests that nuts can lower the risk of a heart attack by as much as 14% and heart disease by 25%, which is a remarkable finding. It is evidently the vitamins and healthy fatty acids in tree nuts such as cashews, brazils, pistachios and hazelnuts that can cut cholesterol and blood sugar. Snacking on a few nuts is also known to help with weight loss as they are filling and can prevent unhealthy snacking.
In summary, Emilio Ros, of the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, said: “Raw nuts, if possible unpeeled . . . may be considered as natural health capsules.” (The Times 14 November 2017). I’m all for that.
