MOBILE MAIL FOR SENIORS ?
Here’s a happy story. The Finnish postal service has less business these days as people move away from ‘snail mail’ and use electronic forms of communication, so it has branched out and is offering helpful services to older members of the community. As well as delivering letters the postal workers are going to deliver friendship! Under-employed postal workers are going to be available as ‘outdoor buddies’ and will take elderly customers out for a 30 minute wintery stroll for a fee. Some people can get isolated in winter when they are afraid if falling, so their ‘postie’ will enable them to keep physically active and have social contact too. Everyone wins. What a creative idea. Hats off to the Finnish postal service – their scheme has my stamp of approval!
