NEW CHAMPION FOR OLDER WORKERS
The UK government has created a new role of ‘business champion for older workers’. The appointment of Andy Biggs, CEO of UK insurers Aviva, was announced on the 5th October at the Conservative Party conference. The intention is that Mr Biggs will encourage chief executives to employ more people over 50. Damian Green, the UK government’s work and pensions secretary, said : “We are not just living longer, we are able to work and earn and contribute for longer. This generation of over 50s can combine the wisdom of experience with the fitness of youth.”
Let’s hear it for Andy Biggs and wish him luck! We shall be watching out for, and reporting on, his progress.
